Hope this message finds you well and you're loving these winter days. The cricket season and the warmer weather is not far away!
Following on from recent club updates, below is an update on club news in the off season.
At the recent AGM on 19 June the committee welcomed Jim Bougatsias as Ordinary Member (2), replacing Stewart McLeod who served in the role last season. The committee would like to thank Stewart for his contribution on the committee last season and look forward to seeing Stewart around the club this season. The full list of 2019/20 committee members is listed here.
There has been discussion around the club for some time on the make up of our senior sides this season. At the last committee meeting it was decided that the 3rds would be a one side this season. Since the 4ths have been a one day side two seasons ago, and based on anecdotal feedback from a number of lower grade players over the last 2-3 years indicating they prefer to play one day matches, the committee have made the decision to advise the VTCA of our intention for the 3rds to be a one day side this season.
Therefore this season the 1sts and 2nds will play in the two day competition (also playing one day matches) and the 3rds and 4ths will be one day sides only. We expect this decision will be advantageous to the 3rds in that players who prefer to play one day matches will now be selected in the higher side rather than choosing to play in the only one day side (as in previous seasons). We also expect more players - past and present - to embrace this outcome, which will consequently strengthen numbers across all grades.
In November last year the club ran a Bunnings BBQ at their Maribyrnong store. It was a great success in raising much needed funds and awareness of Seddon Cricket Club.
This year our Fundraising Director, Brian Rooney, has secured the Bunnings BBQ at the Maribyrnong store on Sunday 8 September. With this commitment, we require as many club members to volunteer or come down and purchase a snag or 10 on the day! If you would like to volunteer on the day, please contact Brian Rooney on 0434 220 590.
We will be up and running at 9am and finish around approx. 4pm - see you then!
Each season the Western Region Junior Cricket Association (WRJCA) are looking for umpires to officiate in junior matches on Friday nights and Saturday mornings. This season is no different, with the WRJCA requesting clubs actively seek umpires across all junior grades and matches. Junior umpires are paid $60 for each Friday night or Saturday morning match.
If you are interested in some extra cash and have a reasonable grasp of the laws of cricket relating to junior cricket, please contact Nathan Wigmore on 0408 551 708.

The annual Seddon CC Multicultural Day is on Sunday 27 January. As a bonus, the following day is the Australia Day public holiday.
Seddon CC Multicultural Day event is a celebration of the cultural diversity at our club, and within the local community in general, while also celebrating the invaluable contribution of club members of all nationalities and backgrounds. Since we staged the first Multicultural Day event six years ago the event has grown and become an integral part of our social calendar.
We have an action packed day planned including three teams (two sides from outside the club) competing in the T20 cricket competition for the Seddon CC Multicultural Day Cup, lamb & chicken gyros' for lunch, 'Foods of the World' for dinner, official presentations after T20 cricket tournament and a band finishing off a big day at the club.
For the kids we have games inside the rooms and also a wading pool for the kids (and adults) to cool down throughout the day.
This year the T20 cricket competition will once again be very competitive, with the title holders - SK Lankans - coming back to defend their title and the Victoria Police Cricket Club entering the competition. The Seddon CC side will be captained by our Scottish import Chris Sole.
Note: The Seddon CC side still requires players to complete the squad - please let Leigh Davies or Josh Beaumont (Coach) know of your availability ASAP.

Once again we will be cooking lamb and chicken gyros' for lunch, marinated and cooked on the spit for hours and served under marquees on the oval. Lunch will be served around 12pm-1pm.
As with every year we have held the Multicultural Day event at the clubrooms, the 'Foods of the World' dinner will be supplied by club members and volunteers and will no doubt be a highlight of the days festivities. Dinner will be served after the official T20 cricket tournament presentations around 8pm and will include dishes from all parts of the world.
If you would like to contribute a dinner dish, please advise Leigh Davies ASAP (as you/we can never have enough food!).
This year we have a surprise in store with a new band to rock and roll the clubrooms after everyone has enjoyed the 'Foods of the World' dinner. Stay tuned for more details in the next week.
Multicultural Day is a great event on the Seddon CC social calendar. Please feel free to spread the word and bring family and friends along. We urge everyone to get along and support the club to make this another memorable day.
See you there!

It promises to be a fun night to fire up the start of the season, so I urge you to come along and support this event. It's a fundraiser with a live entertainer, fully stocked bar and an abundance of finger food. See you down at the club!
Do you live within 5km of our club rooms? If so, please help Seddon Cricket Club and vote for a new Automated cricket pitch roller (see link below). We need as many votes as possible, with voting closing at 5pm on Monday 17 September.
Please share the link with friends, family, work colleagues, neighbours, local businesses and people you don't like - basically any one who lives within a 5km radius of Seddon Cricket Club and who are therefore eligible to vote for our project.
Why do we need a new Automated cricket pitch roller? The current manual roller is on it's last legs and our voluntary curator - the great man Geoff Price - needs all the help he can get to ensure we continue to prepare quality wickets for our senior sides.
The more votes we get, the better the chance we have of our project getting selected and obtaining funding from the State Government. It's that simple!
