The annual Seddon CC Multicultural Day is on Sunday 26 January. As a bonus, the following day is the Australia Day public holiday.
Seddon CC Multicultural Day event is a celebration of the cultural diversity at our club, and within the local community in general, while also celebrating the invaluable contribution of club members of all nationalities and backgrounds. Since we staged the first Multicultural Day event seven years ago the event has grown and become an integral part of our social calendar.
We have an action packed day planned including three teams (two sides from outside the club) competing in the T20 cricket competition for the Seddon CC Multicultural Day Cup, BBQ lunch, 'Foods of the World' for dinner, official presentations after T20 cricket tournament and live entertainment finishing off a big day at the club.
For the kids (and adults) we have a number of activities planned - including a photo booth and games inside the rooms and a wading pool outside to cool down throughout the day.

With the cricket season scheduled to commence next weekend, below is an update on key information for the season ahead.
First match & Pie night
The cricket season is scheduled to commence next weekend, with the 1sts and 2nd scheduled to play two day matches and the 3rds and 4ths playing one day matches (as they will all season). The VTCA will provide an update early next week on whether the season will commence on time - stay tuned for more information next week.
If the season does commence next weekend, the club will hold its annual Pie Night at the clubrooms on Thursday night. The Pies are FREE, drinks are at cost prices. It would be great to see as many players and club members as possible at the rooms next year Thursday night.
Subscriptions and match fees
The committee have agreed and endorsed a new model for yearly subscriptions and match fees this season. Match fees have increased, but subs have been significantly reduced this season. See information and link below.
Yearly subscription (registered junior players excluded): $150
Match fees: $20 per week (regardless of umpire/s officiating in matches).
NB: Registered juniors still only pay $5 per seniors match.
Social members - Fee TBA.
The above new yearly subscriptions and match fees applies to all senior grades and players. There will be no exceptions for the one day lower grades and/or the amount of matches a player plays during the season.
Please note: As per the endorsed updated club constitution, players and club members can only vote at club annual general or special general meetings if the member has paid in full their annual subscription by 31 December. Membership voting rights will carry forward to 31 December the following year.
Find out more about subscription fees and how to pay on our website.
Please note the club has invested in new EFTPOS facilities for all club purchases - including bar sales, clothing, function payments, yearly subscriptions and match fees.
With the new EFTPOS facilities, the club will be phasing out the manual slate in the next couple of months. At this point all purchases will need to be either in cash or via card.
Captains and coaching group
The committee and Senior Coach have also finalised the following captains for the season ahead:
1sts - Liam Braithwaite
2nds - Sheldon D'Souza
3rds - Craig Stevens
4ths - Denis Wilkinson
The coaching group was finalised earlier this year and includes Talor Williams as Senior Coach, John Dryiski as Fielding (Activities) Coach and John Taylor and David Roche as Assistant Coaches.
Completing the selection committee of the Senior Coach and captains will be Life Member and Past President Jason Grieves as Chairman of Selectors.
The committee wishes the coaching group, new captains and Chairman of Selectors all the best for the season ahead.
Further information will be sent out this week on the contact details of the Senior Coach and each captain. If you are unavailable at any time this season, please write your name down on the "Unavailable sheet" in the clubrooms and/or contact Talor Williams (Senior Coach) on 0431 342 083 or via email on firstname.lastname@example.org
Club clothing is available from over the bar. Please see Jeremy Van Kruining, John Taylor or Jeremy Procko for your club clothing requirements.
Recruiting of players
Each season one of the greatest challenges for cricket clubs is to fill junior and senior sides, particularly in the lower senior grades. The Seddon Cricket Club is no exception when it comes to this challenge. Therefore we constantly remain on the look out for new players of all ages and abilities to complement our senior and junior sides.
If you know of any friends or colleagues who would like to play cricket this season, please bring them down to training or the club. New players can also contact myself for further information on the club.
Trivia night - Monday 4 November (Cup Eve)
The next club function is the trivia night at the clubrooms on Melbourne Cup Eve. More details will follow in the next couple of weeks. Please save the date in your diary!
President - Seddon Cricket Club
Hope this message finds you well and you're loving these winter days. The cricket season and the warmer weather is not far away!
Following on from recent club updates, below is an update on club news in the off season.
At the recent AGM on 19 June the committee welcomed Jim Bougatsias as Ordinary Member (2), replacing Stewart McLeod who served in the role last season. The committee would like to thank Stewart for his contribution on the committee last season and look forward to seeing Stewart around the club this season. The full list of 2019/20 committee members is listed here.
There has been discussion around the club for some time on the make up of our senior sides this season. At the last committee meeting it was decided that the 3rds would be a one side this season. Since the 4ths have been a one day side two seasons ago, and based on anecdotal feedback from a number of lower grade players over the last 2-3 years indicating they prefer to play one day matches, the committee have made the decision to advise the VTCA of our intention for the 3rds to be a one day side this season.
Therefore this season the 1sts and 2nds will play in the two day competition (also playing one day matches) and the 3rds and 4ths will be one day sides only. We expect this decision will be advantageous to the 3rds in that players who prefer to play one day matches will now be selected in the higher side rather than choosing to play in the only one day side (as in previous seasons). We also expect more players - past and present - to embrace this outcome, which will consequently strengthen numbers across all grades.
In November last year the club ran a Bunnings BBQ at their Maribyrnong store. It was a great success in raising much needed funds and awareness of Seddon Cricket Club.
This year our Fundraising Director, Brian Rooney, has secured the Bunnings BBQ at the Maribyrnong store on Sunday 8 September. With this commitment, we require as many club members to volunteer or come down and purchase a snag or 10 on the day! If you would like to volunteer on the day, please contact Brian Rooney on 0434 220 590.
We will be up and running at 9am and finish around approx. 4pm - see you then!
Each season the Western Region Junior Cricket Association (WRJCA) are looking for umpires to officiate in junior matches on Friday nights and Saturday mornings. This season is no different, with the WRJCA requesting clubs actively seek umpires across all junior grades and matches. Junior umpires are paid $60 for each Friday night or Saturday morning match.
If you are interested in some extra cash and have a reasonable grasp of the laws of cricket relating to junior cricket, please contact Nathan Wigmore on 0408 551 708.
